Confraternities of Southern Switzerland

The southern Swiss canton of Canton Ticino is home to a rich and enduring tradition of Catholic lay brotherhoods—known in Italian as confraternite—that weave together faith, social service, cultural heritage and communal identity. In recent years, these organisations have come into renewed focus as both living institutions and heritage-assets worthy knowing. Once a year a special celebration is held for them in St. Roch church.
